The Right Food for the Right Dog

There is one thing that is for sure in the world around us and that is that there is variety in all things.  That is one thing that makes life so wonderful, is that there are so many different things to experience.  The same could be said for the dogs that we own.  Not only are there many different breeds and varieties within a breed but there are also various types of dogs that are of the same breed.  Some of our dogs are very active and others are not as active.  Many times this has to do with the type of environment they grow up in. For example, you can take a very active dog breed and have him in a house alone most of the day where he doesn't really get the activity than he needs.

That is why it is so important that you choose the right type of dog food, not only for the breed of dog that you have, but also for the activity, age, and other special circumstances of your own particular dog.  Once you find the right balance in the proportion that you would feed your dog it is easy to maintain.  The problem comes in when you do not take special care to feed your dog properly and their health can suffer.  Here are some things that you should keep in mind when you are deciding what and how much to feed your dog.

Unless your dog has special circumstances, such as a health condition, the most common thing that you would want to consider is the amount of calories that you would feed your dog.  A dog that is very active, obviously, would be fed either a higher calorie food or more food that is lower calorie.  You should keep track of your dog's weight, and at any sign that they are either gaining too much weight or losing weight quickly you should adjust the number of calories that your dog eats per day.

Another thing that you need to decide is whether you're going to feed your dog dry food or wet food.  There are a lot of reasons why you would choose either one, but one of the main reasons would be because of the dog's ability or inability to crunch on dry food.  Some dogs may prefer wet food because of the taste as well.  There are some concerns, however, about wet dog food and the possibility that it is made out of unhealthy ingredients.  If that is a concern for you then perhaps you can use dry dog food soaked in water. 

Feeding your dog properly is very important.  Nobody would want to intentionally harm their dog and you certainly would not want to feed them something that was going to make them sick. There are a lot of choices out there when it comes to dog food and your dog is counting on you to make the right choice.  So do your research well and make sure that you feed your dog right for his type.
